This piece was a semi-mystery to me until about an hour ago. I knew Marshall Preheim and I moved it with the rest of the A\V Aerie install from Pat Kenneally’s storage, but that’s about it. There was space in the box truck, and it would help the transformation of the stage, so we brought it along. It’s a remnant of a collaborative effort between Cody Hudson, Juan Chavez, Cris de Silva, and Mike Genovese. It was for an exhibition at A\V Aerie in 2005 entitled “Tragic Beauty”. It’s large. The phoenix with the 773 on it barely fit in a station wagon, so that alone was about 8 feet from tip to tail.
Marshall also came through with some file photos from the original install so you can get a better sense of the scale of this excerpt from “Tragic Beauty”. Thanks for clearing that up, Mars!
