The big event for Teaching Artists Month during Nomadic was the Extraneous Education Conference, or EEC. Think of it as a meeting of the minds for Artists, Educators, and Art Educators alike. EEC was a series of informal conversations and projects on reimagining the impact of effective and meaningful learning spaces. The day was split up into two parts.
The CVAE is an organization of folks focused on Critical Visual Arts Education, and presented excerpts and elaborations on its most recent paper, “The Condition of Art Education”. This was published in Studies in Art Education that year. CVAE was represented by Jerome Hausman (Retired Professor, School of the Art Institute), Jim Duignan (Associate Professor, DePaul University), Nick Hostert
(Art Educator, Palatine High School), Scott Ploof (Art Educator), and Keith Brown (Art Educator, Chicago High School for the Arts).
I’ve had the pleasure of working with over half of these gentlemen in the ensuing years, and they were a wonderful closing panel for the EEC.
