Going to do a bit of back-tracking today to cover the last event of our Back of the Yards month at Nomadic. Fittingly it’s about writing, which has been a touch more difficult as I close out these last dozen or so entries. Writing, like most art forms, is a discipline that you have to nurture. The more you practice it, the better (theoretically) you get. For Nomadic Studio, we did our best to include all forms of Art and so when our comrade and co-director at 65GRAND, Thea Liberty Nichols, suggested moderating a panel on “the Form and Content of Writing”, we were more than happy to give her the reins.
Thea called upon artist and educator Bert Stabler, who also had a piece in our SITE Office, Social Media manager for the MCA, Abraham Ritchie, SAIC prof, writer and artist Claudine Ise, and curator and reviewer, Patrice Connolly. It was a nice, lively group with an impressive pile of credentials, and they imparted years of knowledge and experience to a well-attended event. Good stuff!
This is one of the events where we have audio already set aside from back then, which I’ve included below. I like that Thea jokes about people not coming up to the front at rock shows as they were set up in front of the Union Rock Yards stage. Keeping it short today, as I think they can all speak for themselves.
