Fiftieth entry! In going through this massive archive of Nomadic, stuff falls between the cracks. For example, while it was a catalogued studio throughout the exhibit, I never did an official entry for the Convertible Stage, nor did I cover the installation of Union Rock Yards like I did for A\V-Aerie, so here we go. Rendering the URY backdrop with a brick wall, and the twinned Chicago flags was pretty simple, but it still took some construction. While we were running the exhibit, my dear friend, Jose Roselló Cañones was in town from Barcelona to perform his solo work as Faraón in the grand hall at the Chicago Cultural Center, and came to stay with us.
Marvelous dude. In addition to adjusting the Feng Shui of our home, and repairing our busted Espresso machine unprovoked, Jose ran around with Beth Wiedner and I for several Nomadic days. He’s a mind-blowing drummer and composer, but we also found out Jose worked construction for years, and was more than happy to help us install the backdrop for our stage. Thanks, sir! Afterwards, we all attended Brandon Alvendia’s book-making workshop in the same space.
There’s not much else to say, other than this was a remarkably fun day. That, and today, the thought of a couple of immigrants successfully building a wall and decorating it with flags in the name of Art makes me chuckle a bit. Salut!
